Tong Rookie 1- May 2023

The sun shone brightly on Manchester 17’s Mcc 1st event of the year, the club put on a fantastic flowing lap for the sportsman and Novice level riders, we had some of the closest racing we have seen for Our Rookie Format of event and early feedback from the riders has been very positive.

The course was a little tighter than previous years, a little challenging ina few places for absolute beginners but still flowing enough to not hinder or impede the more inexperienced rider, many riders took the opportunity to head back out for the open practice session.

In the opening laps there was a great battle between the top 4 Sportsman riders and Jack Harvey soon pulled away from the chasing pack to give himself a 4 minute lead, at an average pace of 14-15 minutes a lap, this was just enough to squeeze through time control just before the cut off of 2 hours to give himself a full lap extra, Jack was the only rider to manage 9 full laps. 2nd place rider Macaulay Quinney came around 2 minutes after the course closed and had a great ride to come over the line 1 minute ahead of 3rd placed rider Callum Scott. A special mention must go to Kate Smith who took on the men in the sportsman class for a fantastic 10th position.

All classes were evenly matched this year and the 1st placed novice Jack Wilson came 11th overall, again it was close at the top with Martin Brogan coming in 2nd place only 1 minute behind, Simon Miller followed in 3rd, only 3 minutes separated these three riders

Two lady riders both completed 4 laps, Brooke Singleton led Poppy Clayton by 14 minutes.

A special thank you to Geraint rogers for the course design and Callum Mcleod for running the event as Clerk of the course, a fantastic step up for this very young man. A massive thank you to all the marshals, club helpers and medical support crew who without we could not run any event.

The Rookie event is run to encourage riders into the world and lifestyle of motorcycle Enduro racing, it really is one of the hardest and most physical sports that anyone can compete in, the UK has many of the worlds top Enduro riders and we hope to keep feeding and encouraging riders to take their first steps into our friendly world.

We look forward to welcoming you to our other club events and we always welcome new members to help out, please see the club website Manchester17.org.uk or the M17 Enduro facebook page for all details.
